What to

Expect

Making the appointment

To make an appointment with us you must have a written referral from your GP and have either:

  • Private Health Insurance;
  • Gold Card Veteran’s Affairs.

Alasdair & Ian see public patients at GV Hospital not at Shepparton Orthopaedics.

Once you have your referral please contact our Practice Manager to arrange an appointment.

At your first consultation

When you meet with Ian or Alasdair they will typically go through the following steps:

  1. Ask you questions in order to take a thorough medical history;
  2. Give you a physical examination (please wear appropriate clothing);
  3. Advise you as to whether any further imaging, pathology or consultation is required.

Based on the diagnosis, your treatment options may include non-surgical or surgical treatment. If surgical treatment is an option you may be asked to take some time to consider your options before returning for another consultation to agree on surgery.

Surgical Treatment

If you decide to have surgery it will be performed at Shepparton Private Hospital.

We will give you paperwork to fill out including:

Shepparton Private Hospital Pre Admission Form. This can also be filled out online at https://www.sheppartonprivate.com.au/

Anaesthetists Pre Operation Assessment and Information form.

Pathology forms for tests to be carried out before your operation.

Follow Up

An appointment for a post-operative review will routinely be made prior to your discharge from hospital, along with instructions on looking after your wound and dressings. If you have any queries please contact our rooms.

Rehabilitation after your operation is vital to achieving a good outcome, sometimes it will be necessary to restrict certain movements and if you are not sure please contact our rooms.

Finally you will be returned to the care of your GP.
